Before my days are filled with Shakespeare, I wanted to get a feel of not only who he was, but what he did. I spent some time exploring sites that were signficant in his life and the city that he eventually called home. I have loved getting to know London and feel very connected to the Bard's source of inspiration!
Before the program starts, I wanted to get a look at Shakespeare's Globe myself. It was such a cool experience to stand in the theatre and understand the impact that one writer has had on not only English literature, but also on the art of storytelling. It makes me excited to share these things with my students. Although they may not appreciate it in the moment, they are reading stories that have truly stood the test of time.
I took a train from London to Stratford-Upon-Avon to explore Shakespeare's hometown. I saw the house he was born and raised in, the home of his wife, Anne Hathaway, and his grave. It was such a cool experience to get a better understanding for how Shakespeare lived and what his life was like as he was growing up. The town was quaint, but really embraced the Shakespearean spirit!
I took some time to explore the city of London and it's many unique neighborhoods. Included here are some photos from Southbank, Westminster, Soho, Covent Gardens, and Notting Hill!
