Entering Preschool (3 & 4 year olds) 2023-2024

No required reading but you may want to share some of these great books with your child:

Entering Kindergarten 2023-2024

All incoming kindergarteners are REQUIRED to read these 2 books:

• Nursery Rhymes by K. Toms (or any nursery rhyme book if this one is unavailable)

• Summer Bridge Activities PreK-K by Rainbow Bridge Publishing (some teachers may required this book to be brought to school in August)

*Note: these books are meant to be read-alouds/read-alongs, not to be read alone.  Only 1 book is required.

• *Giraffes Can't Dance by G. Andreae

•  *The Tiny Seed by E. Carle

Entering First Grade 2023-2024

All incoming first graders are REQUIRED to read these 2 books

• Henry & Mudge: The First Book by C. Rylant

•  Henry & Mudge in Puddle Trouble by C. Rylant

This is an optional book for advanced readers.

• Nate the Great and the Big Sniff by M. W. Sharmat

This book is optional but suggested for all incoming first graders.

• Scholastic Weekly Reader:  Summer Express (between K & 1)

Entering Second Grade 2023-2024

All incoming second graders are REQUIRED to read 2 of these books.

• Mercy Watson to the Rescue #1 by K. DiCamillo

• Commander Toad in Space by J. Yolen

• Flat Stanley: His Original Adventure by J. Brown

• Magic Tree House:  Dinosaurs Before Dark by M. P. Osborne

Entering Third Grade 2023-2024

All incoming third graders are REQUIRED to read  2 of these books.

• Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective by D. Sobol

• Chocolate Touch by P. Catling

Entering Fourth Grade 2023-2024

All incoming fourth graders are REQUIRED to read  this book.  Be prepared to do a book report on this book when you return to school in August.

Entering Fifth Grade 2023-2024

All incoming fifth graders are REQUIRED to read  2 of these books.
