Course Description:
The content offered for classroom and behind-the-wheel driver education is guided by the recommended curriculum and guidelines of the Agency of Education, and the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. In order to receive a driver’s license in the state of Vermont, anyone under the age of 18 must complete 30 hours of approved classroom instruction, 6 hours behind-the-wheel instruction, and 6 hours in-car observation.
Epic Driving, LLC utilizes the ADTSEA 3.0 curriculum which references the AAA How to Drive textbook along with a full range of provided lesson plans, videos, and content, from AAA and other organizations to meet specific course objectives to support understanding and application. Epic Driving, LLC also utilizes elements of the Zone Control Driving curriculum, the Vermont Driver’s Manual, and the 11th edition Drive Right textbook.
Overview:
Grades earned while attending Epic Driving will be a reflection of student mastery of the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association Curriculum; required Vermont Department of Motor Vehicle content; and behind-the-wheel development. Students will be able to drive with little or no instruction in a safe, legal, and responsible manner at the end of this course. This course does not guarantee a passing score on the DMV road test, but will focus -in part- on preparations for the test.
Students can earn up to 10 points each class for class participation. Daily participation includes…
Participation in discussions and hands on activities
completion of in-class assignments
daily on time attendance, etc
Students must complete each homework assignment and earn a 70% or better. Retakes within one week of due date are accepted.
If students complete any assignment or quiz before due date -on first attempt only- and with an 80% or better, they will earn 10 points towards their final exam. If students consistently do this they can earn up to 80 points towards there final classroom exam.
On occasion, there will be graded in-class assignments. Students must complete all in-class assignments.
Unit quizzes are open note quizzes and 80% or better is required for each quiz. One retake is accepted.
Students can earn up to 10 points for driving participation in each lesson
Drive Route forms will include assessment criteria & be used to record lesson assessment
While driving, students are assessed for following direction, attitude, and effort connected to driving task being taught
If a student refuses to follow instructions, uses a cell phone while driving or observing, or intentionally completes an unsafe or reckless act, they will lose driving privileges immediately. If a resolution is not found to correct the challenges within 7 days, the student will not be able to finish Drivers Education in the current class
3. Final Drive Assessment:
Students must earn an 80% or better on the Final Drive Assessment
The assessment will be given on one of the last two scheduled driving appointments
Students will be evaluated on all of the skills covered in the previous In-Car lessons
The Final Drive can only be taken once in this class
The Final Exam will be given during the last week of classes and it will be taken at home.
Students can only take the final exam once, but it is an open note assessment.
Students are required to pass the final exam with an 80% or better.
Students will need to make up ALL excused/unexcused classroom or driving/observation components.
Students are allowed only ONE classroom absence (excused or unexcused) during this session, but it must be made up. If a student misses more than one classroom session, they will not be able to complete Driver’s Education during this session.
Excused classroom absences must be made up in an agreed upon way between student and teacher. I need PARENTS/CAREGIVERS to communicate with me in order to get the excused absence approved.
Unexcused classroom absences will need to be made up in an agreed upon way between student and teacher, but there will be a cost of $80.00/per hour based on situation and time commitment from the instructor. If a student does not complete a classroom component by the end of the course, they may make up the classroom session at a cost of $80.00/per hour.
Excused absences for driving/observation may be made up using any open appointments on SignUpGenius in that same week, or in a collaborative way between student and teacher. If a student does not complete the driving/observation requirements for the class by the end of the course, they may do so at a cost of $80.00/per hour.
Unexcused absences for driving/observation may be made up ONCE using any open appointment on SignUp Genius in that same week, or in a collaborative way between student and teacher. Students will still be able to make up the appointment at a cost of $80.00/per hour. If a student misses more than one driving appointment and there are two or more unexcused absences, the student will not be allowed to complete Driver’s Education in this session.
