“Windows Into Heaven, Pathway to the Holy Spirit”
The Western Lieutenancy is blessed to have many talented members who generously share their talents with the Order. Last year, the San Bernardino area welcomed a world famous iconographer, Dame Vivian Imbruglia and her husband, Sir Tom Imbruglia to our Order. Dame Vivian will share her talent for the Thursday evening program. You will not want miss out on her presentation, an opportunity to learn about the Sacred Image of Icons before our Annual Meeting. Space is limited. First come first serve.
The kickoff event of our Equestrian Order Annual meeting will be an evening of faith, fellowship, as Dame Vivian shares her love of sacred art. The gathering will begin with hospitality as members come together to renew acquaintances and meet new friends. After a delicious meal, guests will be present for the unveiling of a new icon of Our Lady of Palestine created especially for the Order by Dame Vivian. She will explain the symbolism of the icon, and walk the group through the power and sometimes hidden beauty of sacred art.
Icons are called, "Windows into Heaven," and they offer contemplative viewers a chance for an encounter with the Holy Spirit, along with the many saints who could be featured in the art. The evening will include an explanation of devotionals, along with lots of stories meant to encourage growth in this avenue of faith. Attendees will come to encounter his/her saint, in the form of a beautiful plaque of Sacred Icon written by Dame Vivian chosen to be your saint and given as a gift by the iconographer herself. These images will be blessed in advance, and prayers will be offered asking the Holy Spirit to direct to whom each Sacred Icon will go.
Dame Vivian Imbruglia has been writing/painting Icons and Sacred Art for over eighteen years. Through her business, Sacred Image Icons, people from around the world have been commissioning icons/sacred art for their homes, chapels, churches, and shrines, including two pieces which have gone to the Vatican. Dame Vivian's work is her ministry, as she endeavors to spread the Word thru image. Dame Vivian has also spoken to numerous gatherings and has led retreats on following the prompting of the Holy Spirit, which she strives to do with her work. This is why all of Vivian's art receives the letters, AMDG, her statement of faith that what she does is For The Greater Glory of God.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is ranked as the #1 of the 16 things to do in Palm Springs by the US News Travel. No trip to Palm Springs is complete without a ride up the Tram. It is the largest rotating aerial Tramway in the world. It was opened in September 1963 as a way of getting from the floor of the Coachella Valley to near the top of San Jacinto Peak and was constructed in rugged Chino Canyon. Before its construction, the only way to the top of the mountain was to hike hours from Idyllwild. The rotating cars were added in 2000.
As you climb aboard the world's largest rotating tramcars for 12 1/2 minutes, be prepared to rise from the floor of the Sonoran Desert, where temperatures frequently reach as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit to the cool alpine air at 8,516 feet. Pass through enormous Ponderosa pines in this arctic-alpine forest, enjoying views of the San Jacinto Mountains and Chino Canyon. When you reach Mountain Station, disembark to explore the facilities, which include observation decks, a cocktail lounge and dining facilities. Pause to watch a short film on the construction of the Tramway, then head out into the 14,000-acre (5,665-hectare) Mt San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness Area.
The view at the top can stretch northward for more than 200 miles on a clear day, all the way to Mount Charleston north of Las Vegas, Nevada. Views to the east and west can stretch as far as 75 miles. Salton Sea is plainly visible to the southeast.
There are no seats in the tramcars; standing room only. A one way trip is 12 1/2 minutes. We advise participants to bring a light jacket, wear comfortable walking shoes to enjoy the walking trails on top of the mountain and bring some quarters to operate the binocular to enjoy the spectacular views of the valleys below and it’s surrounding areas. Lunch is included and will be served at the Pines Cafe on top of the mountain.
Join us as we begin our weekend with Friday morning golf! Only five miles from Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort is Desert Willow Golf Resort, famous for its pristine conditions and stunning mountain views.
Desert Willow has two 18-hole courses, and we will be playing the more “friendly” Mountain View Course, still considered a challenging round, but much flatter and more forgiving than its sibling. The outing will include both a quick breakfast meal and boxed lunch.
Pending the number of players, we hope to have a shotgun start, allowing us to gather as a group afterwards to share our stories of what promises to be a truly memorable round of golf. We will be playing a scramble format so plan on playing with your spouse or your friends. Prizes will be awarded, but we will all be winners having spent the morning with our brothers & sisters of the Order, at a golf course ranked in the top 50 in the State, in prime golf season weather. It doesn’t get any better!
We look forward to seeing you on the course!
