Happy Friday, Masters Swimmers!

It's time for your weekly update. Despite the cooler temperatures, summer is almost here. Be on the lookout for news on our summer schedule to start in a few weeks when school is out. There will be some tweaks to our practice times, but we will still have the same number of practices offerings.

Practice Schedule

The upcoming week will follow the same practice schedule. The pool will be set up long course (50m) on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday; the pool will return to short course (25yds) on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This will be the consistent layout plan for the next few weeks. Use the Practice Sign-Up Button below to register for workouts offered for the week of May 17-22, 2021.

Bittersweet News

We want to share our congratulations to teammate and coach, Christina Twist. Christina accepted a new position as Director of Admissions for the Washington University Medical School. We are so happy for Christina, but her job promotion means that Christina and her husband, Kevin, will be moving to St. Louis next month.

This news is incredibly bittersweet as Christina has been an integral part of our team since its inception almost 6 years ago. Christina promises to keep in touch, send along some Thursday distance workouts, and swim with us at Nationals this year. So, this is not "goodbye" but rather "see ya later."

A proper send-off requires a gathering, so let's squeeze in another team social to wish Christina well before she leaves for St. Louis!

Teammate Tattle

Our eldest team member had a small fall the other day and broke his wrist. No worries, though, Walt Lenard is still hitching rides to and from the pool to help out with coaching. Heal quickly, Walt!

Julia Jarman checked in to tell us that despite undergoing intense treatment for lung cancer, she is swimming “100 laps in a little pool every day and walking 2-3 miles, as well.” We wish you well, Julia!

We had another fun birthday-themed practice last Saturday to honor teammate Danielle Sloane the day before she turned 42. Hope you had a wonderful combined Birthday/Mothers' Day, Danielle!

Nomad teammate, Lexi Karpinski, says hello from her travels. Lexi is having a blast meeting up with friends and family along the way, and she continues to post amazing photos ; a few on the right of Lexi goofing off in Moab, Utah (Arches National Park).

Congrats to Marshall Martin on his 4th place overall, 1st in his age group, and 1st place Masters, in the Dickson Sprint Triathlon last weekend! Mid-race running pic to the right.

2021 USMS Short Course National Championships

July 21-25, 2021, Greensboro, NC

UPDATE: USMS is moving forward with plans for this championship meet. The Order of Events is now posted, and it is important to note that there will be changes in the format of the meet due to COVID restrictions. The National Qualifying Times are also now present on the meet site (although remember that you can still enter 3 individual events plus relays without having any qualifying times!). Full meet information will be available in May. If you are interested, please let me know, so that I make sure we have enough hotel rooms. All teammates are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Fun Practice Pics of the Week!

Having a good time with our duckies, chutes, bands, and other equipment!
