Director's Note
Welcome to our virtual dance concert! You may be wondering why we chose this format to showcase the dancers’ hard work this year. While a live event will always be our preference, keeping 200+ dancers safe during numerous costume changes and backstage transitions posed a unique challenge, not to mention limited space for guests due to social distancing guidelines. What these dancers and our incredible team have accomplished is remarkable, with nearly 60 different dances being filmed for a limited live audience over a one-week period.
Our dance students have navigated a host of challenges this season and met them with awe-inspiring grace and determination. The art of dance is all about connection- with yourself, the music, your fellow dancers on stage, and your audience. Dancing in masks, having limited physical contact with other dancers, and performing without the reciprocal energy of an audience, removes several key elements of our craft. These dancers have adapted and remained flexible, as they train daily to do, and managed to sharpen their other tools for expression in the process.
This concert is a celebration of the marriage between movement and music, at a time when perhaps we could all use more of both. From rock ‘n’ roll to swing, and everything in between, we hope you enjoy the show and find some time in your own life to dance to the music.
