Physical Chemistry of Hydroxyapatite
In this research area, we study the optical and electrical properties of vacancy-type defects in hydroxyapatite (HAp) undoped and doped with magnetic impurities.
We evaluate the luminescent properties of such HAp nanostructures using advanced electron microscopy techniques such as cathodoluminescence; in addition, we use the photoluminescence and the paramagnetic electron resonance technique to correlate the characterization of point-defects. To evaluate the physical chemistry properties of HAp, we use the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy technique.
Finally, we assess the biocompatibility of HAp to fabricate osteoinductive scaffolds and materials to use as a contrast medium in nuclear magnetic resonance imaging during bone regeneration treatments.
