Batterers Intervention Program

Curriculum:

The Batterers Intervention Program is a thirty-six (36) or fifty-two (52) week session, which includes:

  • Taking responsibility for your actions

  • Examining belief systems that support violence

  • Substance abuse & violence education & prevention

  • Consequences of using violence

  • Effects of violence on relationships and community

  • Power & Control issues

  • Learning non-abusive behaviors

  • Learning new communication skills, self awareness and time-out methods

  • Historical Native perspective on domestic violence

The Peacekeepers Intervention Program follows the philosophy that individuals have the sole responsibility for the violence they commit and that abusive behaviors have consequences. It is possible to live a non-violent and non-threatening lifestyle.

Probation and Prosecution Services

Criminal Prosecution:

Prosecution services for cases of domestic violence on behalf of the pueblos in the eight northern tribal courts.

Probation:

PeaceKeepers has one probation officer who monitors and supervises defendants convicted of domestic violence for the tribal courts (as requested by the court) within the eight northern pueblos of Nambe, Ohkay Owingeh, Picuris, Pojoaque, San Ildefonso, Santa Clara, Tesuque, Taos.
