The final design consists of two words, "CRAFT" and "CENTER", enclosed in a weather-resistant vinyl. Each word is produced separately and differently. "CRAFT" consists of three layers. The back layer, the backplate, is a solid piece of 0.75” pressure-treated plywood. The second layer contains the majority of the engineering. On this second layer, there is a track which is vaguely in the shape of the word "CRAFT". Running through this track is a small cart which houses a bright light bulb. The cart is attached to a chain that runs through the center of the track. A mechanical light system driven by a motorized pulley/rotating arm with an LED light at the end drives the "drawing" of the letters effect. In front of the middle (”track”) layer are layered acrylic letters, spelling ”CRAFT”. These letters are translucent, allowing the cart’s light bulb to illuminate them as the cart passes behind.
Below "CRAFT", "CENTER" is spelled out in colored resin. Another sheet of pressure-treated plywood has been carved out, and in the negative space swirls translucent resin. The encasing that surrounds the whole contraption is made from wood and marine-grade vinyl fabric. The wooden 2x4’s create a sturdy shell which can easily be wheeled in and out of the craft center. And, the clear vinyl fabric allows viewers to easily see the sign while keeping the sign safe from the rain and other environmental factors.
Front letters are layered, laser-cut colored/iridescent acrylic
Mechanical system that simulates real-time “drawing” of the letters using light to illuminate behind the translucent letters
Inspired by our original train-track concept but improved for reliability and maintenance.
CNC-routed cursive lettering filled with tinted 2-component epoxy resin
All sections have a vehicle LED light at the end of the system and are powered by a motor.
Pulley + Cable System:
Tracks are made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) to contain motion
Pulleys are cut from aluminum 6061
A motorized pulley system drives a cable that raises and lowers the light, creating dynamic vertical motion within each letter
Rotating Arm System:
Only C & R has this rotating arm
A wooden arm, driven by a motor, rotates an LED-mounted cart to create a sweeping light effect within the letter contours.

Wooden frame with pressure-treated plywood as the back plate
Enclosed with transparent marine-grade vinyl for protection
Wheels add mobility for storing the sign inside after hours
