We imagine a future Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department where students feel represented, valued, and supported in their graduate studies and academic or professional careers. As the MAE Peer-to-Peer Committee (P2P), we hope to facilitate mutual success through advocacy, community engagement, and peer-to-peer education.
The MAE P2P committee is a group of dedicated graduate students who represent, advocate for, and support graduate students within the department by providing easy access to resources and shared experiences, addressing student life issues and concerns, and creating safe spaces for discussion and community building. We work directly with department leadership to provide these resources, improve the quality of student life, and expand the opportunities for success.
The P2P committee was founded in 2021 to raise issues on behalf of and to solicit feedback from graduate students in MAE. Since then, we have grown into a group of dedicated students who continue to strive to provide a conduit for communication, improve student life, and provide resources for success. We are passionate about supporting each other through our graduate school endeavors by offering peer mentorship rooted in our shared experiences. As graduate students, we believe that we are in an ideal position to recognize, raise, and solve problems that affect fellow graduate students.
The committee is composed of MS and PhD students in the MAE program. Committee members have two key responsibilities: (1) to hold peer mentorship sessions for their peers and (2) to meet regularly with department leaders to convey the general pulse of grad students and to relay or suggest ways to better the department and its programs.
