1. My CSE 8A final exam conflicts with my Math 20A final exam. What should I do?

Response from CSE student affairs is below.
"Unfortunately, at this stage, we are unable to resolve the scheduling conflict. The final exam dates will not change. The Math Department mentioned the final exam for Math 20A will have a regular make-up final that will be offered for any student with a conflict. That make-up exam will probably be that same Saturday at 3-6pm. The final exam for CSE 8A will be in-person and synchronous. With this new information, you could technically take both courses, given the accomodation for Math 20A. However, we would still highly recommend that students pick either Math 20A or CSE 8A.

In general, as part of the 4-year plan for our majors, we do recommend taking CSE 8A and MATH 20A in your first quarter. However, students can take other lower-division electives, physical science courses or GE's for their college in their first quarter. This will not slow your time to degree. While it's recommended, it's not required that Math 20A and CSE 8A be taken in the same quarter. If there is a conflict with the final exam, we would recommend either picking Math 20A or CSE 8A and adjusting your 4-year plan as needed. We schedule hundreds of classes each academic year and it is not always possible to cross-check with every department (math, ECE, cognitive science, Bio) to avoid conflicts. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We will endeavor to avoid these conflicts in the future."

2. I am on the wait list for CSE 8A and I would like to know my chances of getting in the class.

Course instructors do not manage waitlists and so we will not be able to help you with this. Waitlists are managed by CSE student affairs. Please contact UCSD CSE student affairs and they will be able to help you with this.
