The name of the ball hitter is called D.K, as it is a reference to Donkey Kong throwing barrels in the arcade "Donkey Kong". The motor would be activated and lead to a bar hitting a marble down the ramp, then it will run a touch sensor and then it would reverse back to its original location. The way that the marble to be recognized is using a light sensor, so if it detects light(yellow marble), then less than a second later, the motor will then activate the hitter.
There was a couple challenges with the design was making sure that the hitter part of the D.K would rub against the bottom of the track, leading for it too get stuck. The design isn't complicated, so making sure it was the right length and being able to hit the marble.
The 2nd challenge with the design was making sure the 2 touch sensors we used to attach to the pipes. We used a preprinted that wasn't Lego, luckily there was people that printed it out in the past, so we were able to use them. Then we attached 2 acrylic parts to each sensor and them lined it up to where the D.K mechanism and be able to hit the marble and then stop after hitting the touch senor.
It required the ball counter to increase by one every time the yellow marble passes the light sensor making the motor go at different speeds to hit the marble. This allows the marble to move on different tracks and therefore creating interesting results!
