In my CAD design process, I closely followed the tutorials on Google Sites and crafted a unique pendulum inspired by Mickey Mouse in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. While the escapement wheel and top half of the pendulum clock were fixed and non-editable, I had the opportunity to unleash my creativity on the bottom half of the pendulum.
Throughout the design journey, I encountered some trade-offs that required thoughtful consideration. The intricate curves I incorporated in my CAD model posed challenges during the extrusion phase, as it became difficult to ensure all lines connected seamlessly. To overcome this obstacle, I opted for a simpler design while retaining the essence of Mickey Mouse's charm.
Additionally, I faced the task of fitting my design within the required rectangle length specifications. As the escapement wheel and top half were predetermined, I could only verify whether my pendulum met the length requirements after transferring the file to AutoCAD and creating the enclosing rectangle. This demanded meticulous adjustments to ensure compliance with the given constraints.
To ensure the functionality and stability of my design, I paid special attention to the placement of the center of gravity. By strategically utilizing symmetry in the body design, I managed to position the center of gravity below its rotation point, resulting in a well-balanced pendulum.
Despite the trade-offs, I am content with the final outcome of my Mickey-Mouse-inspired pendulum design. Its simplicity, complemented by a carefully considered center of gravity, promises to add a whimsical and visually appealing element to the overall pendulum clock.
Give a summary of your CAD (escapement wheel and pendulum) and what motivated your design. Mention which parts of the design are fixed, and which one were free for design. Mention the trade-offs you made to make sure your pendulum design could be manufactured and has it Center of Gravity below its rotation point (well-balanced)
