My pendulum was inspired by my favorite animal: a monkey. I imagined a monkey swinging on the pendulum which rocked back and forth and went through a multitude of alternate designs and ideas before finally ending up with the one shown. The pendulum and the escapement wheel are both free moving and rotate along an axis, allowing them to push off one another to create the oscillating motion. One issue with the more unique design that I went for was the lack of symmetry that came with it. It caused a center of gravity and mass that was not aligned with the axis of rotation; however, it proved to not have much affect.
