Initial Sketching
Modeling
This render is the complete assembly (L3-L5) of the PTFE enclosure placed between the L4 and 5 discs. The pink disc is what the healthy disc looks like in the spine while the silver one represents the enclosure secured with the Anchor 2 prototype with a one-way valve.
This render is what the PTFE enclosure model used for simulations was. The model was designed to scale to fit within the lumbar disc space while maintaining the general surface shape of the vertebral body.
Testing: FEA
Displacement FEA performed on the full assembly to predict it's behavior in vitro and pinpoint areas of concern
Von mises stress FEA performed on the PTFE sac model to predict it's reactions to various loads and locate areas that need reinforcement
Prototyping
This prototype of clip v2 is composed of PLA and serves as a test for the viability of a titanium model in an anatomically correct model.
The felt prototype of the sac serves as a step for understanding how the PTFE should be sealed, where the felt substitutes for PTFE and the string substitutes for nylon.
