A system that allows for varying intervertebral disc spacing while maintaining a consistent axis of rotation. Our lead screw system attaches to the Axial and Torsional Load tester that SeaSpine has. Its modular design allows us to attach our Flexion/Extension and Lateral Bending testing setups.
SeaSpine's implants clamp directly onto the spinous process. In these tests, the spinous process is the most likely portion of the testing block to break. To ensure the longevity of design, a modular vertebra was made. By separating the spinous process from the vertebral body, we were able to simplify the manufacturing process .
ASTM F2624 necessitates that testing must be underdone in simulated in-vivo conditions. A watertight isolation chamber was designed to accommodate all testing setups. Due to constraints, the isolation chamber was not built, however, detailed sourcing and design plans were made and given to SeaSpine for future use.
3 testing setups were made with modular parts to validates implants under compression, torsion, flexion, extension, and lateral bending. A series of plates and other components were designed and manufactured to interface with these testing equipment.
