Weekly Progress Reports (see sidebar), the Gantt chart, and this Project Management page should be printed out before meetings with the sponsor and instructor.
All team members should be able to explain all items on the progress report.
Place a "*" at the beginning of the title of the active week Progress Report (see * in sidebar).
Project Objectives
Concisely list and prioritize the project objectives and constraints
High Priority Objectives
Comfort for Bodie
Weight distribution
Adjustable frame and mounting positions
Second Priority Objectives
Transition from resting to standing
Sitting to standing
Lying down to standing
Other Constraints and Issues
Waste disposal
Ease of loading Bodie into the cart
WOW Design Solution
Our sponsor's dream solution would be an extended use solution that assists Bodie in transitioning from resting positions to standing. The ideal design would be one that is comfortable enough for Bodie to use for extended periods; mobile enough for Bodie to move without the device inhibiting his motions; convenient enough for Bodie to sit, stand, lie down, and relieve himself easily; and easy for Bodie’s human counterparts to load, unload, and clean the device.
Risk Reduction Strategy
List areas of risk and strategy that will be used to eliminate risk really in the design process.
Risk: Adjustable Frame
Strategy: prototype and hardware test; performance evaluation with Pugh Chart
Risk: Method of Locomotion
Strategy: research; prototype and hardware test; performance evaluation with Pugh Chart
Risk: Frame Material
Strategy: Solidworks rendering and simulation; prototype and hardware test; performance evaluation with Pugh Chart
Intermediate Milestones
Identifying meaningful intermediate milestones is a critical for effective project management. Together with your sponsor identify such milestones, and specify specific performance requirements you aim to meet at each milestone.
Develop - brainstorming, sketching, drafting
Prototype (risk analysis) of adjustable metal frame
Research of competitors’ design
Analysis of existing similar situations (human wheelbarrow, stroller, skateboard, baby-cart, 4WD)
Procurement of examples (physical hardware)
Modeling of physics for examples (FBD)
Definition of performance evaluation standards
