Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
2 protoype were built and presented to sponsor
A merged design of both prototypes was created on SolidWorks
Additional Cantilever beams of brass and spring steel were test
Stainless steel was found to have the best properties
Anayltical tests were done to confirm accuracy of device as well as repeatability
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Implemented LED indicating force range
2 Prototype
Initial Sketch of 1st chassis print
Completed electrical circuit
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
1st 3D Chassis Print
Order
LCD Screen
LCD Screen back pack
Arduino micro or nano
More LEDS
Thicker Spring Steel

05/07/13
Wants to easily read from the range to 1 -10
Better Initial Sensitivity
No noise indicator
Like the LED on the screen
Likes LCD screen on the face of device
Patient testing for next week
Wants testto be within 2-3 minutes
1 handed device would be ideal
Buttons not consistently used can be moved out of the way
Confirm if students should move forward with 1 or 2 prototypes

05/02/13
Keep device the way it is and do not change to increments
Test device on different people
Look into new rods
Accelerometer
Implement sound that beeps
DO test on each other
More load cells and LCD Screen
Build 2 prototypes
Measure time of test
Consider different springs, Arduinos and Cantilever beams
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Use less words on the presentation slides.
Have an accelerometer in the device
Possibility of using spring steel shim (Razi, May 8)
Risks and Areas of Concern
· Selection of length and material of cantilever beam.
o Plastic deformation – major concern.
o Provides travel distance, reduces sensitivity of force applied.
o Material within form factor due to deflection.
· Linear bearing system for rod – reduce friction.
· Time frame for 3D printing
o In order to print in time for diabetic testing next Wednesday.
Schedule
· Items that need to be purchased:
o SD card shield and components for data logging: Week 7
o LCD screen without shield: Week 7
o “Backpack” chip for LCD: Week 7
§ Allows for i2c communication
o Buttons (4 minimum): Week 7
§ Calibration
§ Freeze
§ Position forward
§ Position back
o Arduino Micro/Nano: Week 7
o LEDs (2): Week 7
o 1095 spring steel with greater thickness: Week 7
· Items to be purchased:
o 1st Chassis (3D Print): Week 7
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
Budget remaining: $1274.00
