Experimental Setup for capturing Microscope Images

The setup consists of a mobile kept at a fixed distance from the specimen and images captured through Cozy Microscope app at a constant magnification (eg; 13.5 X)

The image shown above (Standard Calibrated Image - 140 mm W x 130 mm H) is taken by the same app at 13.5 X magnification from the same distance as the microscopic images and is calibrated to 4800 microns which corresponds to 128.5 mm image dimension giving a resolution of 37.4 micron/mm of image dimension

Images using Cozy Microscope App can be taken at other magnifications as well, but above database was created at 13.5 X as the images were able to show the features of the materials like the fibrous nature or pore size explicitly.

Higher magnification may lead to loss of resolution and also loss of the features using this particular app

Portable Steam-OXygen-Camphor In-situ Experiment (SOXCIE) for COVID 19

The objective of this project is to design a homemade portable unit by combining a steam vaporizer with a Spiritual Vedic Dani which provides for fumes of camphor and Eucalyptus oil (Nilgiri) and modify the same to give emergency oxygen by decomposing lithium perchlorate (ClLiO4) at 400 C.

Portable Steam-OXygen-Camphor In-Situ Experiment (SOXCIE) generator which can provide for effective steam, emergency oxygen and camphor fumes (along-with Eucalyptus oil) which can aid in decongestion of respiratory system and aid the vulnerable to combat the disease

1 Kg of ClLiO4 gives enough oxygen at 400 C for breathing by a normal person for up-to 8.5 hours

Spiritual Vedic Dani - The spiritual vedic dani unit can reach a temperature of 210 C which is enough to generate fumes of camphor and eucalyptus oil (Nilgiri) both of which aid in respiration and act as de-congesant. This product is Made in India by Soham Engineering Works

Usage - Add 2 tablets of camphor and a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil (Nilgiri) to generate fumes for a room and allow for normal inhalation for people in the room. Allow the fumes to circulate in the room and DO NOT INHALE in close proximity. You may also add 2 tablets to this device and melt the camphor and mix 1 tablespoon of camphor solution to 1 liter of water used in a steam vaporizer.

Benefits - Camphor is used topically to relieve pain, irritation and itching. It is also used to relieve chest congestion and inflammatory conditions. Camphor is a topical analgesic and a cough suppressant. Eucalyptus oil is a cough suppressant. Both these components are found in widely used VICKS VAPORUB.

Steam Vaporizer - The steam vaporizer unit is readily available at local chemists and can be used for steam inhalation treatment against COVID-19.

Usage - Steam inhalation can cause burns on face and skin, hence usage is recommended with butterfly nose device and wearing masks which can prevent skin burn.

Benefits - Steam due to high temperature does not allow the novel Corona virus (SARS-Cov2) or other viruses to survive and hence reduces their reproduction in the nasal cavity thereby preventing the progression of the disease and restricting symptoms to MILD conditions.

Future work - To modify the unit by increasing the temperature to 400 C - 430 C, thereby Lithium perchlorate (ClLiO4) powder can be decomposed to liberate 60% of oxygen (O2) by weight and allow for emergency oxygen supply in home for COVID-19 patients.

Requirement : Certificate of Analysis - ClLiO4 and NOC format for procurement of chemical for research and academic purposes only

Tests and trials to be carried out to determine the validity of the O2 generation and the purity and suitability of the same for emergency purposes at home. Other similar chemicals will also be tested for the same before finally developing the prototype
