Type 1.1 program: Total of 48 credits
Doctoral program with a duration of 3 years, but must be completed within a maximum of 6 academic years.
Type 1.1:
As specified by Chiang Mai University’s admission announcement for each academic year.
A Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Candidates must demonstrate sufficient knowledge, ability, and potential to conduct doctoral research, subject to the approval of the Graduate Program Administrative Committee in Industrial Engineering.
A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering field (such as Production Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Food Engineering, etc.) with sufficient knowledge and potential to conduct doctoral research, and with a minimum GPA of 3.0; or candidates with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in Industrial Engineering or related fields.
Must have English proficiency test results that meet the criteria set by the Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC).
Must meet other qualifications as specified in the Ministry of Education’s Announcement on Graduate Program Standards B.E. 2558 (2015).
Other qualifications may be considered at the discretion of the Graduate Program Administrative Committee in Industrial Engineering.
Applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency through one of the following tests, taken within the last two years (based on the date for program applications)
CMU-eTEGS: minimum score of 45
IELTS: minimum overall band score of 4.0
TOEFL (ITP: 430; CBT: 117; IBT: 39)
CU-TEP**: minimum score of 45%
TU-GET / TU-GET (CBT)**: minimum score of 45%
KU-EPT**: minimum score of 45%
DynEd 0.5 (available at CMU only): minimum score of 0.5 (equivalent to CEFR level A1)
CMU e-Grad**: minimum score of 50%

b. Academic Activities
Students must organize and present seminars in English on topics related to their dissertation at least once per semester for no fewer than 3 semesters, and must attend all seminars throughout the study period.
The dissertation or parts of it must be published or at least accepted for publication in at least two international journals indexed in ISI, Scopus, PubMed, or Web of Science, with the student listed as the first author; or alternatively, students must successfully file at least two patents based on their research work.
Students must present the dissertation or parts of it at least once at an internationally recognized academic conference in the relevant field, with the student as the first author.
Students must submit a study progress report each semester, approved by the Chair of the Faculty Graduate Program Committee, and submit it to the Graduate School every semester.

Students must meet the English language proficiency requirement by achieving the minimum scores in one of the following tests. The test results must have been obtained within the last two years:
CMU-eTEGS: minimum score of 65
IELTS: minimum overall band score of 5.5
TOEFL (ITP: 523; CBT: 193; IBT: 69)
CU-TEP**: minimum score of 65%
TU-GET / TU-GET (CBT)**: minimum score of 65%
KU-EPT**: minimum score of 65%
DynEd 0.5 (available at CMU only): minimum score of 3.0 (equivalent to CEFR level C1)
CMU e-Grad**: minimum score of 90%
**The score must not be lower than the specified percentage of the test's total score.
As required by the program:
(1) Students must complete the course 255835 Research Techniques in Industrial Engineering.
(2) If the Advisory Committee deems that students need additional academic background relevant to their dissertation, students must enroll in those courses (maximum of 4 courses) as approved by the committee. These courses may be offered within or outside the Faculty of Engineering, and credits will not be counted toward the degree.
D. Qualification Examination
Students must pass a qualification examination to assess readiness and competence before submitting their dissertation proposal.
Students who do not pass may retake the exam once, by submitting a request; the retake must be completed within the following semester.
Students who fail the qualification exam may be considered by the Graduate Program Administrative Committee for transfer to a Master’s program.
6.Tuition Fees
The tuition fee is charged as a lump sum of 42,000 THB per regular semester, for a total duration of 3 academic years (6 regular semesters).
In the case that a student does not complete the program within 3 academic years, the student must continue to register for university services and pay the tuition fee for each additional regular semester.
