Attention, future journalists! This summer, Endicott College will host its first ever Young Journalists Workshop at the same time as our annual Young Writers Workshop.
I invite you to visit our beautiful seaside campus on June 25-27, 2025 to learn from working journalists, learn skills that are essential to the profession, and meet other students who are interested in the world of news and reporting.

Dates: June 25-27, 2025 · 9am-3pm
Eligibility: The workshop is open to students entering grades 8-12 who have an interest in digital, print, or TV journalism.
Cost: $400, which includes all activities, lunch and snacks for all three days, and a t-shirt!
Class sessions will include...
Introduction to News Writing and Storytelling: Covers the basics of journalistic writing, including structure, clarity, and the importance of credible sources. Learn how to write compelling leads and organize a story effectively.
Interviewing Skills and Techniques: Equips students with practical interviewing skills, from crafting good questions to establishing rapport and gathering insightful responses. "Man on the street" interviews build hands-on practice.
Fact-Checking and Media Literacy: Students learn to verify information and recognize credible sources, spot misinformation, and understand bias in media.
Photography and Visual Storytelling: Introduces students to basic photography skills and the use of images to enhance storytelling. Discuss visual ethics and how to capture moments that support the your narrative.
Journalism Law 101: Introduces foundational topics like First Amendment rights, freedom of the press, and the legal protections journalists have when reporting on public figures and events. Learn about common legal pitfalls in journalism, including defamation, invasion of privacy, and intellectual property issues. The session will emphasize ethical considerations and the importance of accurate, fair reporting.
