Over the school holidays, a friend approached Keri for advice on managing a student she was tutoring that had severe anxiety. This inspired her to make our next webinar series which is on Test Anxiety and Memory. We felt this is an important topic to share with the Empower KEA network as many ākonga at high equity index schools struggle with test taking. This is in part due to negative academic experiences and/or limited personal time to do reversion.

Keri and Taryn share ideas about how to blend Level 2 and Level 3 standards together into a single course. The pair uncover that there are essential skills and dispositions that are valuable to rangatahi, and that not all of these things need to be assessed. Keri and Taryn also speak to some of the challenges faced while working in High Equity Index Schools (HEIS) but how this also creates opportunities to make longlasting positive change.

Keri covers three things she has found made a difference moving from a mid decile to low decile school, such as Classroomscreen, Preferred Activity Time, and Linking Do Nows to Rewards Systems. This PLD takes on the format of a hui, to encourage others to stop by and join the discussion as well as ask questions.
