Meet Ms. Bering

I am excited to start my fifth year as the music teacher and band director here at Emmons! I grew up in the Antioch area, so I love being able to teach in my hometown community with many other fantastic music educators. During my time in Antioch schools, I attended W.C. Petty, Antioch Upper Grade School, and Antioch Community High School. It was while I was attending these schools that I developed my passion for music and teaching.

I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018 with my Bachelor of Music Education with a minor in Leadership Studies. During my time at U of I, I was a member of many music organizations, as well as the Marching Illini. Besides serving as a squad leader and section leader during my time in the program, I also had the opportunity to travel to New York for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Dublin, Ireland for their St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Over the summer, I earned my Master of Music Education through the University of Colorado Boulder. As a part of this program, I had the opportunity to move to Colorado for a month every summer for the past three years! In addition to taking classes, I enjoyed running, hiking, and enjoying all the beautiful mountain views.

Besides teaching music, I also enjoy reading, baking, and running. I also enjoy spending time with my seven-year-old black lab, Luna. In addition, I continue to perform myself by playing in a band filled with music educators from the northern Chicago suburbs.

I'm looking forward to an amazing year of working with all of the students!
