We fall into this domain because we started a CS pathway. It felt like a really different world from our classroom teacher background.
We attended the Kentucky Association for Career and Technical Education (KACTE) Summer Program, held at the Gault House, last summer.
Paid for our registration with Perkins grant money.
Awesome for networking and helping us begin to grasp the world we had entered.
We also were made aware of some amazing PD opportunities put together through by Mark Harrell from this office. Drones, 3D printing, virtual reality. All really good.
The time commitment is reasonable. Plan for a 5 day workshop during the summer and then a few follow-up workshops throughout the rest of the school year. (I did 8 virtual workshops that I attended in the evenings.)
When you complete the training and finish your first year teaching AP CSP, you are granted certification for all high school CS courses here in Kentucky.
The cohort you work with is a wonderful PLN that will help you make .
We have been 3D printing for quite a while now, but hadn't had a reason for, or knowledge of, how to move beyond TinkerCAD, in terms of student designs. While this product is great for early designers, it doesn't translate at all to real 3D design/CAD software.
High school teachers can participate in this program, which gets them the following:
Full access to a college level Digital Literacy course with a focus on 3-D printing
A 3-D printer to use in your classroom
Post-program approval to teach Dual-Credit Digital Literacy which fulfills multiple Kentucky CTE career pathways
Results have been super positive with this course so far. It has noticeably empowered our students to look at 3D printing as a more immediate and accessible option in both their academic and personal lives.
