Engage@EMU, Generations United and the Ypsilanti Senior Center are collaborating to facilitate the Ypsilanti Intergenerational Community Solutions Institute (YICSI) - an intergenerational training and design institute that will bring together key stakeholders in the City of Ypsilanti for a series of gatherings to collaboratively learn about intergenerational issues and plan intergenerational initiatives to reduce social isolation and improve health outcomes for all generations.
A Magical Relationship Between Staying Power/Staying Home and Idlewild, MI
Idlewild, Michigan is a community in Yates Township with a fascinating history. Last month the town welcomed Staying Power/Staying Home by hosting the programs’ annual retreat for a second time. Staying Power/Staying Home is a youth-driven movement for housing justice and belonging through arts activism. The program co-coordinators traveled with 11 artists to the Historical Idlewild Preservation Society and stayed from June 10-12. We spoke with program coordinator Molly Raynor, program staff Ashanti Kenyatta Campbell and program member Kadiatou Kabato to learn more about Idlewild and their time there.
Digital Inclusion to End Operations After Nearly 11 Years of Service
Digital Inclusion, an EMU program launched in 2008 (through the Office of Engage@EMU and the Academic Service-Learning Office) founded by Jack Bidlack, former director of the B. Side youth entrepreneurship program, is an organization that aimed to reduce the “digital divide” (technology gap) within the local community and for students at EMU. DI is ending operations after providing nearly 11 years of dedicated service to our campus and our community.
