The Faculty Development Center hosts a variety of learning communities each year. This fall, we are excited to host a few new opportunities for faculty, lecturers, and staff. Below, you will find a list of the learning communities we are supporting this fall, as well as links to each.
This learning community, presented by our DEI Faculty Fellow Selyna Beverly, is bringing together a group of educators to explore topics on inclusive practices in order to create more positive learning environments for students so that they can persist in their majors and toward graduation.
This learning community aims to generate knowledge about experiences and skills for academic leadership in institutions of higher education. All leaders, current and future, are invited to join this community of practice.
The General Education (GE) program at EMU is forming professional learning communities for four GE categories: Arts (GEKA), Social Science (GEKS), Humanities (GEKH), and Writing Intensive (GEEC-WRGT). The goal is to help enhance teaching and learning in general education courses.
This learning community is an academic year-long community that creates opportunities for EMU instructors to explore the theory and practice of leveraging the digital humanities within their own classrooms.
This learning community will consist of both faculty and students who aim to generate conversations surrounding student experience and ways it could be enhanced, with a goal of harnessing the power of connections to improve student retention.
This learning community will consist of three workshops that provide an opportunity for faculty participants to learn about the new and innovative 2+2 Early Childhood Education fully online program proposal process, as a model for developing and enhancing their own departmental, school, or college programs.
Amidst our heated and contentious political climate, this program offers guidance for instructional staff in thinking about the 2024 election, and other stressful local, national, and world events, in our classrooms. Please consider attending this workshop, taking place on September 27 from 12 to 3 PM, to find support and strategies for dealing with the challenges of the outside world, while navigating the complexities of academic life. We invite all tenure-track faculty and lecturers to attend this program.
This three-part program, hosted by the Faculty Development Center and facilitated by Kate Pittsley-Sousa and Julia Nims, is aimed at encouraging, assisting, and developing skills in EMU instructors related to the adoption of free or more affordable course materials. Please visit the website for dates and times.
