What is Lead Time Cases?
In a nutshell, this site has short cases created from recent events, including topic tags, suggested assignments and discussions for class, and a list of sources. Many of the cases are about leadership, but also other management topics. It's free to use for academics (see link to request access below).
Why did we create Lead Time Cases?
Our experience as faculty is that students can search on most published cases and find other student responses, slides presentations, or discussions. This undermines the purpose of case analyses, to promote individual thought and application of theories to business situations. In our opinions, the ability of students to read other analyses before writing theirs renders case analyses much less useful if not useless. We don't think that most students are trying to find solutions unethically. However, the internet 'pushes' information. If you search on your course textbook, the company named in the business case, or even the topic, you may encounter already-completed work by other students.
We start with recent news events related to management and leadership, find reputable sources, and write a short case. These are 'real time' and therefore are not meant to be scholarly or eloquent. The cases have facts from sources like Bureau of Labor Statistics (for example) or combine news articles that are related but are not simply reprints of other articles. Each case has example assignment questions and topic labels that are searchable on the home page. The recent nature makes them not only more interesting and relatable to students, but not discussed specifically on the internet as they relate to your Leadership/Management topics. Although we are from the Management discipline, we find that faculty outside of our discipline like to use them as well.
Why are there so many references for each short case?
We not only love using short cases in our courses, but recent articles on their own. We use several references per article, not only for a more complete case, but so that you can use access them for class readings on their own.
Why can't I register with my private email address?
In order to fulfill our mission to have a site that is not accessible by students, we verify that by use your *.edu address and verify you are faculty by emailing you one time when you register.
