The weather is moderate and the bugs aren't buzzing yet! Spring is the perfect time to hike the trails with your dog and catch some of your favorite spring ephemerals and returning migrators.

Observing wildlife- watch out for little turtles crossing the path at dusk and dawn. Bring your binoculars to observe the beloved Prothonotary Warbler and other birds
Identify spring plants- the rare Virginia least trilium

The weather is hot, humid, and sticky. You can see plentiful lush vegetation but be prepared for swarming insects. As you take a walk you can observe river otters in ditches and turtles basking in the sun. Summer is the season for butterflies so you will see dozens of Zebra Swallowtails pollinating the weeds and wildflowers along the pathway.

Boating on lake Drummond - be prepared because the lake is 3ft deep on average

The days are getting cooler and now it is time for a good hike. The ideal hiking season is October-May. The insects are declining, and the Bald Cypress trees are starting to turn bronze. The Bald Eagles are returning while the Monarchs and Neotropical birds are heading South for the winter.

Watch the birds migrate
The weather is chilly and the swamp is quiet. Fallen leaves expose just how barren the swamp's landscape is. Bears are heading to dens and Minks are running around. The Tundra Swans and Snow Geese are gathering by the thousands to make their way to warmth for the winter. Snow may fall for a few short days at the swamp.
