The Great Lakes Earth Exchange is a new invited-speaker series (aka the GLEE Club) at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) that highlights the relevance and importance of the Geology of the Great Lakes region to our campus community.
The Geosciences offer in-demand and high paying careers for undergraduate students, but most students in Michigan are not exposed to the Geosciences before college and don't know that they can make a living studying the Earth.
Through funding from the National Science Foundation, the EMU Department of Geography & Geology will be hosting the GLEE Club from 2025-2029, as a way of introducing students to Earth Science.
Each year, four speakers will visit EMU's campus to talk either about their research and work to EMU's undergraduate students. Three speakers will be graduate students studying at a Great Lakes institution doing Earth Science-related research in the Great Lakes region. The fourth speaker will be a professional from the Great Lakes region, who may not be a Geoscientist, but requires a deep understanding of Earth Science in their day-to-day work.
Talks will be open to the public, and details will be posted to the EMU Campus Events Calendar.
