Professor of Political Science and Director, Bruce K. Nelson Faculty Development Center
Jeffrey L. Bernstein is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Bruce K. Nelson Faculty Development Center. He writes on issues of civic education and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and on enhancing institutional support for teaching. He is co-author of the forthcoming book, "Vital Statistics on American Politics" (CQ Press).
Part Time Lecturer, English Language and Literature
David Boeving (they, them, theirs) is a part-time lecturer in the English Department and a therapist. David writes about a variety of topics through documentary poetics, and their therapy practice focuses on mindfulness and acceptance. Since 2014, they have also facilitated courses in creative writing, rhetoric, and peer tutoring at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility.

Adam Bogedain is an instructor in the GACET at EMU, in the Construction Management Program. His research and teaching interests revolve around utilizing ‘the educational toolbox’ in construction and educational technology to assist teaching and learning. Projects are the focus of construction, so project-based learning and collaboration are crucial to learning about construction! In addition, recruitment from K-12 and other college transfers are vital in his agenda to add new talent to EMU!

Emilee Breitner is in her first year here at Eastern as an undergraduate student after graduating from Monroe County Community College with her associates degree. She is a Secondary Education- Language, Literature, and Writing Major and a Communication and Theatre Arts Minor. An interesting fact is that she’s a member of Evergreen, Eastern’s co-ed a cappella group.
Multimedia Instructional Designer, Center for E-Learning
John Bruenger is an E-Learning Instructional Designer for the Center for E-Learning. He provides Canvas and related technology support, and instructional design consulting to faculty teaching online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses. He also supports online teaching through training, outreach, and support resource development.
Staff, Office of Research Compliance
Sonia Chawla is the Director of the Office of Research Compliance. She supports faculty, staff, and students in maintaining compliance with federal laws and regulations, state and local laws, university policy and procedure, and ethical best practices in research. She manages human research protections, animal care and use in teaching and research, research integrity and misconduct, outside interests, export compliance, drone use in teaching and research, and compliance with National Institutes of Health biosafety guidelines.

Brian Coffey is a Full-Time Lecturer in the History and Philosophy Department. His primary research involves an exploration of Meta-Ethical and Normative questions about the nature of goodness. He mainly teaches Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, and Medical Ethics.
Research Assistant/ Instructional Coach, World Languages
Kelsey DeCamillis works for the WritEL grant in the World Languages Department as an instructional coach and research assistant. The WritEL grant is currently studying an argument writing program developed by the National Writing Project (College, Career, and Community Writer's Program, or C3WP) and the impact it has on English Learners. Kelsey's background is in secondary English education and she has an MA in TESOL.

Dr. Doris J. Fields is the Assistant Vice President for Academic Programs and Initiatives and Professor of Communication at Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Fields is the recipient of: The Ronald W. Collins Distinguished Faculty II Award (2013), Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year Nominee (2014), Top 25 Women Professors in Michigan Recognition (2013), Cornerstone Award recipient from The Center for Multicultural Affairs (2015). ). Dr. Fields’ areas of specialization include: Interracial/Interethnic Communication, Intercultural Communication, Public Speaking, and Persuasion. Additionally, Dr. Fields has designed and facilitated several workshops on Diversity/Race and Communication.

Michael Foster is an Assistant Professor of French, teaching methods, and bilingual education in the Department of World Languages. He has been at EMU since September 2019. Sarah M. Ginsberg is Professor of Communication Sciences & Disorders. She was the founding Editor of "Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders (TLCSD)." She is the Editor of "Xerostomia: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Managing Dry Mouth" (Slack Incorporated), Co-Editor of "Evidence-Based Education in the Classroom" (Slack Incorporated) and co-author of "Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology: Evidence-Based Education" (Plural Publishing). Her work has appeared in Journal of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and The Teaching Professor.

Iman Grewal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Director of the NEXT Scholars Program. Her primary research interests include: issues of educational justice, place-based education, and intersectional identities. She mainly teaches courses in Educational Psychology, Social Foundations, and Qualitative Research.

Ben ILOZOR is Professor, Construction Management Programs, School of Visual & Built Environments, GameAbove College of Engineering & Technology. He has taught and coordinated distance and online education since 2000. An author of over 300 publications (refereed journal papers, articles, books, monographs, etc.) involved in the design and delivery of hundreds of built projects (residential, industrial, recreational, institutional, commercial, etc. facilities across continents, his specialty is in life-cycle built facilities design, planning and management focused on how to better design, build and operate manageable and serviceable facilities through their life-cycles from cradle to cradle – recycle or reuse.

Associate Professor, English Language and Literature; Women's and Gender Studies
Melissa J. Jones is a Professor of English & Women's and Gender Studies at Eastern Michigan University. Her research on gender and sexuality in literature from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries has led to her current teaching project, "Shakespeare/Yoga," which uses yoga mindful movement alongside historical/philosophical perspectives on embodiment to provide students with novel ways to approach Shakespeare's complex writing. Melissa is also a very recent graduate of a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification program.

Susan Kinsky is teaching her 4th semester as a part-time lecturer in the College of Education. She is also a first-year PhD student in Educational Studies and a research fellow. Previously she taught 1st and 2nd grades in the San Francisco Bay Area and Boston.
Professor, History and Philosophy
W. John Koolage is a Professor of Philosophy and the Director of General Education. His research focuses on scientific theorizing, especially in contexts such as climate change, conspiracy theory and non-human animal cognition. He also writes about teaching and learning, with a focus on High Impact Practices. He is also quite focused on stewarding the liberal arts core of EMU degrees.
Assistant Professor, Women's and Gender Studies
Dr. Dyann Logwood currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department and teaches courses in Africology and African American Studies, Political Science, and Religious Studies. She is a poet, writer, and activist. Her current academic endeavors include providing undergraduate students with the opportunity to mentor youth at a local middle school through her Mentoring Youth in Urban Spaces (WGST 230L2/WGST 500) course, writing on Black feminist mentorship, belongingness, and critical classroom practices. She is also the co-coordinator of the Annual Women of Color Feminisms and Leadership Symposium.
Provost and Executive Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs
Dr. Longworth earned her Ph.D. in political science from the University of Iowa in 1996. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa, with a double major in political science and history. Her research and teaching interests have focused on the determinants of successful executive leadership, particularly in electoral and legislative arenas and the politics of gender. She is the coauthor of the book “Framing Sarah Palin: Pit Bulls, Puritans and Politics” that analyzes partisan and gender narrative frames in American electoral politics.
In addition to her scholarly interests, she is a veteran administrator. Her assignments at Eastern Michigan University over the years include: Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (currently) and Associate Provost and Associate VP for Academic Programming and Services where she led the University’s retention and graduation improvement efforts. She has also served as Women’s Studies Director; Department Head, Political Science; Assistant VP of Academic Affairs (I); Assistant VP of Academic Human Resources and Divisional Budget (I); Director of Course and Program Development; and Professor, Political Science.

Amanda O. Maher is an Assistant Professor of Social Studies Methods and joined the Department of History and Philosophy in 2020. In addition to teaching history and secondary methods for the College of Arts and Sciences, she regularly teaches courses for Teacher Education. Her research interests include citizenship education.

Dr. Cam McComb, Associate Professor of Visual Art Education, is an artist/researcher/teacher working in the EMU School of Art & Design. Her research focuses on helping art teachers to create concept-based lessons that allow students to acquire new skills and knowledge while making personally meaningful connections to enduring ideas that transfer into their lives. Dr. Cam is the Michigan Art Education Higher Education Division Chair and is one of five Michigan educators to hold Early Middle Childhood Art Certification with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Michael Mcvey is a professor in the Teacher Education Department specializing in educational technology. He serves his broader community through service on the Saline Area Schools Board of Education and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Board of Directors. He is a co-author of Championing Technology Infusion in Teacher Preparation (ISTE, 2020).

Sara Muchmore is a second year doctoral student and fellow in the Educational Studies program in the Teacher Education Department. Prior to that, she was a classroom teacher and administrator with a special focus on alternative education programs and systems of equity and justice in educational spaces.

Rebecca Pietrowski is an instructional designer with the Center for E-Learning. She has over 7 years of experience as an instructional designer with half of those years at Eastern Michigan University. An alumna of EMU, she has a BS in Elementary Education, a BFA in Graphic Design, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Media Technology.

Ildiko (Ildi) Porter-Szucs is Associate Professor of ESL/TESOL in the Department of World Languages. Her scholarship encompasses teacher formation, pedagogical grammar of ESL, pronunciation of ESL, and second language assessment. She is co-authoring the book manuscript "How do you Know that your Students are Learning? A Practical Guide to Language Assessment."

Johnnetta Ricks is an EMU University Student Teaching Supervisor who continues to work as a practitioner by developing and running a math intervention program for a virtual high school. Ms. Ricks supports efforts associated with increasing representation from marginalized and minoritized communities in education through mentoring, grassroots activism, and civic engagement.

Andrew M. Ross is a Professor in the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics, focusing on applied math and data science. He is also a member of Transformative Eastern Michigan Mathematics Educators (TEMME), a group focused on revamping the secondary-education math teacher preparation program. He is a co-author of the forthcoming set of active learning materials "Statistics for Future Secondary Teachers."

Christina M. Sears, MFA, MA, RSME, is an interdisciplinary artist, poet and educator. After working professionally as a choreographer and performance artist internationally, she returned to the rust-belt Midwest. She has worked extensively in higher education, teaching at Wayne State University, University of Toledo, Towson University and University of Michigan-Flint, among others. She earned a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from Eastern Michigan University in 2021. Her research and scholarly papers have been presented at many conferences and professional organizations including ISMETA, the National Dance Education Organization, and most recently at the Link Movement Arts Center of NY. Christina's poetry has been published by Tupelo Press' 30 x 30 Program and other literary outlets. In May 2022, her poem "Widow's Walk" will be presented at Montclair State University, NJ. Additional text pieces, including poetry and performance works, have been presented at the DLEctricity, Glastonbury Festival of England, and at the University of Michigan Museum of Art and Arthur Miller Theater. She is a grant writer, project administrator and free-lance wordsmith, and the mother of three children.

Angela Staples, PhD is an associate professor in the Psychology Department. Garrett Whitehead is an Instructional Designer at the University with the Center For Elearning. He has been at the University for just under 15 years helping faculty design, update, and troubleshoot courses in the Learning Management System (currently Canvas) used by the University.

Mark Whitters has taught in the Department of History & Philosophy for the past twenty years and has been active in an innovative pedagogy called "Reacting" for ten years. He lives in the city of Detroit where he does community building, youth work, and pastoral advising with a faith-based group.

Stephanie P. Wladkowski, PhD, LMSW, APHSW-C is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work and primarily teaches in the Health and Aging concentration of the Masters in Social Work (MSW) program. As a former hospice social worker, Dr. Wladkowski’s funded research is on live discharge from hospice, or when individuals stop receiving hospice care due to no longer meeting the eligibility requirements. Dr. Wladkowski also researches the opportunities and barriers within doctoral education, including the gendered and cultural experiences of pregnancy and parenthood.

Anke Wolbert is a Part-Time Lecturer in the School of Communication, Media & Theatre Arts where she teaches communication courses. Her research has focused on social movement rhetoric with particular focus on the Greenbelt Movement as well as various areas on teaching online. She is a co-editor of "The Rhetorical Legacy of Wangari Maathai."
Associate Director, Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility
Sean Woolf is the Associate Director of the Office of Wellness and Community Responsibility at and oversees EMU's wellness-based conduct process. He works with faculty and students to strengthen student wellbeing and to help the EMU community to flourish by employing practices and ideas rooted in positive psychology, modern stoicism, cognitive behavioral therapy, and person-centered therapy. Sean holds an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from EMU and an MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College.
