The EMU Theatre for Young Audiences Tour recently received a Project Support Program Grant of over $7,000 from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council and the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS for the 2022/23 Touring Season. Funding will include support for guest designers, musicians, materials and supplies. The season will consist of two shows:
FALL TOUR (Rehearsing October- November, 2022 & Touring November-December, 2022): The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Adapted by Dwayne Hartford, Book by Kate DiCamillo. Target Audience: Grades 2–5, but appropriate for younger and older audiences. Directed by Emily Levickas, EMU Lecturer.
WINTER TOUR (Rehearsing January-February, 2023 & Touring March-April, 2023): Hare and Tortoise, by Brendan Murray. Target Audience: Ages 3-8, but appropriate for older students. Directed by Meriah Sage, EMU Assistant Professor.
We have toured productions since 1968 (55 years), have performed for over 400,000 students and teachers and engaged more than 800 undergraduate and graduate students (mainly in the Applied Drama and Theatre for the Young MFA/MA Program). We also understand arts experiences to be essential for every child's education. The arts foster the imaginative powers that are needed for living hopefully and creatively. In addition to touring out into the community, we present 2-3 performances for a multigenerational experience in Sponberg Theatre located in EMU’s Judy Sturgis Hill Building. Tickets for campus performances will be $5/ticket, free for anyone 3 and under.
