The Old West Church- In Beacon Hill, formerly a stop on the underground railroad. The church was where gay activist John Ward founded GLAD in 1978
The Old South Church- Provided with “Open and Affirming” status by the UCC in the 2000s, the church was one of the first in Boston with an openly gay pastor.
Twelve Carter- Opened in 1958, one of the first bars in the U.S. specifically for the queer community.
Elaine Carter was the first open member of the LGBTQIA community to be elected to a state legislature.
In 1989, Massachusetts was the second state to prohibit discrimination against same sex couples in terms of housing or employment.
In May of 2004, Massachusetts became the first state and the sixth jurisdiction in the world to legalize and perform same-sex marriages.
Fenway Health- in the Fenway neighborhood, Fenway health became one of the foremost institutions to research LGBTQIA health and provide care to the community.
Boston was the home of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus in the 80s, an organization that has strived to promote positive images of gay men for decades.

Trans Club of New England- Founded by activist Marissa Sherill Lynn for the transgender community. On 500 Columbus Avenue.
Trans Resistance for Black Trans Lives | Massachusetts community of black and brown trans people and cis allies coming together to address injustice and demand change.
The National LGBT Health Education Center via Fenway Health provides educational programs, resources, and consultation to health care organizations with the goal of optimizing quality, cost-effective health care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and all sexual and gender minority (LGBTQIA+) people.
Jacques Cabaret- in the Bay village, safe space for not only gay men but also the trans community.
Machine- A gay dance club in the Fenway Neighborhood, closed currently as a result of COVID-19.
Boston LGBT Film Festival- One of the oldest film festivals for the queer community in the United States.
Wild Rover- Bar at 63 Chatham Street.
Club Cafe- Restaurant and bar in the Back Bay neighborhood. Known for drag performances and live music.
