Palmyra was an oasis situated along major East-West overland trading routes. This exhibit, written by Julia Bowers and Molly Swetnam-Burland, explores how access to these materials shaped identity as constructed by the people who lived there.
Ian Wilson surveyed a range of sites, from Ostia and Rome to Dura Europus, to show the wide appeal of the cult of Mithras. His worship could be tailored to suit the needs and local practices of people living in cities large and small, of a range of cultural backgrounds.
