Description
My final animation project is a retelling of a classic Aesop fable: The Tortoise and the Hare. I believed that the public's knowledge of this story would make the premise clear when watching it, which is why I chose not to have any focus on the rivalry between the animals and jumped straight into the action. The music and sound effects used are from Mario Kart, a goofy race just like this one.
Still Frame #1: Countdown
I wanted to create Anticipation for the beginning of the race, instead of just having it start immediately. So I used Maya's 3D Text feature to create an in-world countdown. This shot also represents Staging, with the clear focus on the two characters and the "1" separating them to show their competition.
Still Frame #2: Hare Leap
In this image, the Hare is jumping over a wall: an obstacle on the path to victory. This exemplifies the animation principle of Arcs, as seen in the jump's overall trajectory.
Still Frame #3: Victory
With the Hare asleep, the Tortoise can cross the finish line and claim the title of fastest animal. I wanted to experiment with something new for the final project, so I learned how to create particles in Maya and used them to create confetti geysers to celebrate the end of the race.
