Charles Delaware Bowman Jr. "Spirit Eagle" of the Kiskiack Tribe of Southeastern Virginia is a native Virginian from York County. He is from a small community named Cary’s Chapel, near Poquoson – a Native American name meaning “marshy land.”
Chief Bowman attended York County Schools, graduating from Tabb High School in 1976. He then attended Thomas Nelson College from 1976 to 1978. He joined the U.S. Army and Virginia National Guard from 1980 to 1986, and received a host of achievements, commendations, awards, and medals. His final rank was E-5/Spec 5 of the Food Service – 94B.
Chief Bowman shares his Native bloodlines with the Kiskiack, Kicotan, Kecougtan, Weynoke, Pamunkey, Chickahominy, Paspaghi, and a few other Tribes that left the Powhatan Confederation. His bloodlines also come from the Powhatan Confederation on both his mother’s and father’s sides.
