The treasure chest I modeled was this one I found on Amazon. I chose it because I liked its shape, proportions, and design. It was kind of hard to match the proportions exactly because the pictures were all in perspective.

While modeling the box I relied heavily on the mirror tool. It was very helpful because I only had to do one corner and could just mirror it across the rest of the box, which saved a lot of time. For the bolts I just used spheres and placed them so that they were half overlapping the surface of the chest.
I used a wood texture that a found online and a lambert shader on the wooden parts of the chest. For the edges around the corners of the box and the bolts, I used a phong shader and a bronze texture I found online to try to make it look shinier. I added a directional light hitting the chest from the front so the difference between the wood and the metal would be a bit more noticeable.
I also modeled the locking mechanism for closing and opening the box, which I later animated. For many of these parts I used the create polygon tool to draw a shape and then extruded it, then used primitive objects and a difference operation to cut holes into the objects. I used the mirror tool a lot. For the pirate sign on the lock, I found a picture of a pirate skull, traced it with the create polygon tool, and extruded different parts of it to make it look like it was coming out of the surface of the lock.

The krabby patty
The treasure inside was inspired by the shape of the chest. I thought that this treasure chest was kind of shaped like the Krusty Krab, so I decided to make the treasure inside a krabby patty. I found the model for the burger from here. I put a point light inside the burger and made it yellow to give it a slight glow as it emerged from the box.
For the final animation, I playblasted one textured video and one wireframe video and edited them together in Windows Video Editor. The background music starts with The Rake Hornpipe and transitions to a remix of the same song when the krabby patty is revealed.
