This competition called for the reinvention of the bike and pedestrian path on the Brooklyn Bridge, which is famously crowded and difficult to access. Our entry proposes new ways to anchor the bridge on either side of the river: In Manhattan, amidst the snarl of on- and off-ramps, we proposed an inclined plaza connecting the street with the promenade level. Roadways are reworked to free up additional street space around the bridge. In Brooklyn, where the bridge has no clear terminus, we proposed a museum tower. This would serve as a visual beacon for pedestrians and cyclist arriving either from Brooklyn or Manhattan, and would also be home to a permanent exhibition on the history of the bridge.
