2019-2020 Ross Fellowship Recipient
Alexia Maynard, recipient of the Ross Fellowship Scholarship, is a student currently enrolled in the Cybersecurity Degree program here at LFCC. She is dedicated to her work, whether it is at her part-time job at Marlow Motor Company in Front Royal, VA, at her farm where she takes care of horses, chickens, goats, and llamas, or a part of her studies for her classes.
She began her studies at LFCC during her high school career by taking dual enrolled courses. From high school, Alexia was introduced to the college lifestyle and challenged herself more than any of her peers. Alexia graduated from Skyline High School in 2018 and became a full-time college student the following Fall. She is currently on her second year of the two-year degree program, and plans to graduate with her Associates with the Cybersecurity Degree in Spring of 2020.
Alexia's goal with this project is to provide computer classes to anyone in the community who may struggle at times. She hopes that individuals who attend her sessions will gain a better understanding of the technology, since the world of technology has advanced tremendously over the past 10 years alone. She also wishes to convey to her students that computers are powerful tools designed to benefit the user. They aren't designed to scare us. As Alexia herself states, "Computers are only tools to us humans that are meant to do one thing: compute data. Without us [humans], the computer is just a useless piece of hardware."
