As the information age evolves, data is continuously generated and stored, ushering in the era of big data, which brings both challenges and new opportunities to traditional industries and technological development. In this big data era, massive data analysis and its related applications are growing daily, and predictably, these will significantly change and influence both everyday lifestyles and industrial development. Furthermore, traditional data processing tools can no longer handle the enormous volume of data, leading to the rise of a new wave of artificial intelligence. In response to these new generational developments and transitions, NCHU established the "School of Informatics and Data Science" preparation office on June 1, 2021, with Professor Tsung-Jen Shen from the Institute of Statistics serving as the director of the preparation office, and officially founded on August 1. "School of Informatics and Data Science" encompasses five units with similar professional backgrounds under the College of Science: Department of Applied Mathematics, Institute of Statistics, Institute of Data Science and Information Computing, Big Data Industry-Academic Research and Development Doctoral Program, and Executive Master's Program in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
Professor Tsung-Jen Shen from the Institute of Statistics serves as the first dean of the "School of Informatics and Data Science". In the twenty-first century, industry demand for professionals specialized in artificial intelligence, big data analysis, and information computing has doubled, and such talent requires interdisciplinary expertise in mathematics, statistics, computational science, and information technology. The advantage of the "School of Informatics and Data Science" lies in its interdisciplinary faculty team and comprehensive curriculum content, focusing on the cultivation of well-rounded data science talent, assisting with industrial upgrading needs, and responding to national development requirements.
