When you return to school, check in with your teacher.
Make up work in a timely manner/schedule flex time to catch up.
How do I write an email to a teacher or staff member?
Practice writing in a professional manner with a professional tone. Always start with a greeting, address the teacher by their preferred title (Mr., Mrs., Ms., or Mx.), write in full sentences, and include a closing. Be sure that your signature line is up to date.
For example:

Keep an organized Google Drive with folder for each class and maintain an organized binder.
What do I do if I am falling behind?
Email your teachers with questions (see below for ideas on composing emails to teachers)
Have HW buddy for each class that you can call/text/email
Use resources that are available (Flex, Writing Center, Math Center)
Getting involved outside of the school day can enhance your high school experience. Commitments to Blake clubs/activities will vary from high school commitments. Learning to get involved, but not over-involved is a challenge entering high school.
Understanding Time:
IN CLASS Time: 33.5 hours per week
FLEX: 3+ hours minutes/per week (approx.) FLEX time is dedicated to accomplish the following:
Doing homework
Attending extra help
Making up an assignment
Planning your week
FLEX is a great chunk of time for students to prioritize what needs to be done. FLEX is embedded into the school day which helps preserve afterschool time for extracurricular activities.
“Getting involved” can mean:
Sports (15-20 hours per week)
Theater (time commitments will vary by time of year)
Student Government (Grade level specific activities) (varies on time of year/grade level)
Student Council (School-wide activities) (1-2 hours per week)
Employment
Volunteerism
Early in the fall we have a club day. Club commitments vary tremendously. Some clubs meet weekly, some monthly.
This resource is available to all students on a drop-in or referral basis during Flex periods on Days 3 & 8. Use the MyFlex Learning app to schedule into the center.
The purpose of the Academic Success Center is to help students improve study skills and executive functioning skills across all content areas. This may include time management strategies, study skills, prioritizing assignments and organizing materials...just to name a few!
Students can be referred by teachers, guidance counselor, and parents/guardians. If you want to refer a student, please contact your school counselor.
The Writing Center meets during Flex in room 224. Students will have an opportunity to work on their writing with an English teacher and LINK peer tutors . Use the MyFlex Learning app to schedule into the center. Contact Ms. Ms. Wren-Burgess with questions. bwren-burgess@email.medfield.net
