The aim of the History/Social Sciences Department is to give students an understanding of their place in society based on a historical, cultural, and contemporary perspective. Social Studies hopes to develop in students the skills which will help them become an active citizenry and effective leaders.
The new Massachusetts Social Studies Standards have been designed with an increased emphasis on civics in all grades.
In addition, there is a focus on the inclusion of standards that reflect the diversity of the United States and world cultures, with particular attention to the contributions of women and men of all ethnicities and backgrounds in the United States and the connections among world cultures.
As well, new standards for financial literacy and news/media literacy have been established.
We are excited to prepare students for the 21st century while continuing our efforts to promote critical thinking, historical analysis, strong research skills and an appreciation for the diversity of the United States and the world.
