Third Culture Cooking is a culinary approach that embraces the blending of multiple cultural identities in a dish. It goes beyond simple fusion food, which is often just different veggies slathered in teriyaki, to a more meaningful exploration of different cuisines. Each chef's unique background and experiences will influence the way they approach Third Culture Cooking, making each dish truly one-of-a-kind.
As a Vietnamese-American chef, I have always felt a sense of disconnection from my heritage and my identity. I'll never be fully accepted or seen by either sides of my backgrounds. But through food, I am able to bridge the gap between my two cultures and create a sense of belonging. Third Culture Cooking is not only about the flavors on the plate, but also about the stories and emotions behind them. It's about embracing my cultural identities and sharing them with the world through my cooking.
