Hi! My name is Fiona Webb and as a student at the University of Arizona, and now a local Tucsonan, I have really come to appreciate the natural beauty of Arizona, and also learned to love the time I spend outside. As a student, I find myself extremely busy, and in turn, extremely stressed. If there is anything I have learned this past school year, it's that spending time outside is one of the most effective stress-relieving tools out there. Spending time outside helps me clear my head when my brain feels scrambled, and also helps me regain focus and concentration. This academic year, I read The Nature Principle by Richard Louv. A quote from this book that I really connected to this year was, “Young, old, or in between, we can reap extraordinary benefits by connecting… to nature… The outdoor world can expand our senses and reignite a sense of awe and wonder not felt since we were children; it can support better health, [and] enhanced creativity” (Louv, Pg. 14). This has inspired me to spend as much time outside as I can, whether that be doing homework, hiking with friends, or spending time at the pool.
I love hiking in Tucson, but as a busy student, I cannot always find time to fit in hikes or other outdoor excursions. Luckily for my readers and myself, there are plenty of other ways to get outside and appreciate Tucson that don't just include hiking. Watching the sunset is one way that I like to get outside. This is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors because it only takes up about an hour out of my day, but I still feel like I get the full Tucson desert and mountain outdoor experiece. My goal in creating this website is to inform my readers about the best sunset spots in Tucson that I have discovered, and some of the wildlife that they may experience in each of these spots.
