As part of our project, we sought to take the interviews and place them in multiple spaces: one in which there were no interventions, where their stories exist as is, and another where we would create a mini-documentary/film. The videos were grouped by overarching themes and arranged in a way that made sense aurally. After the interviews were completed, we went through our transcriptions to pull out quotes that resonated with us. These quotes served as a part of our keywords page, as well as aided in the process of sorting of footage to begin the video editing.
The intent for this video collage is to showcase the power that multiple ideas and voices have to shift paradigms and leave an imprint on its viewers.
Similarly, Dr. Anita Huizar-Hernández speaks about this in her interview regarding the layering of stories via maps to account for alternate histories. In this framework, we similarly attempt to create a space for voice to uplift voice and have them overlap in ways that they otherwise physically could not. What new spaces emerge out of placing these stories together? Where might they overlap or diverge?
Here, we see the power in story as tradition and the ways that we can come together in spirit of that.
What a privilege to be able to work with these stories within this sacred space, as well as imagine alternative past, present, and futures that inspire reciprocity, respect, and honoring of one another.
