Life Skills

This program is designed to better prepare our students for their future. As part of the program, the students not only participate in subject classes, but also are engaged in a curriculum that focuses on daily living skills, such as cooking, washing dishes/clothes, organization, time management, and community activities. The students also participate in a job coaching program where they go out to different job sites daily to get hands on experience and develop necessary skills for "real life" future success!

Grading Policy

Students earn their grades through a points system. The curriculum is modified for each student to reach their maximum potential based on their individual needs. The categories where points can be earned are listed below.

Classwork: Students are expected to participate in class activities. This includes being prepared, volunteering, and encouraging their classmates. Each period, students can earn up to 10 points totaling 50 points per week, per class.

Homework: Homework is given to reinforce concepts reviewed in class. It also indicates if the students retained the information from the lesson, or if it needs to be reviewed again. Students can earn 5-10 points, depending on the length and difficulty of the assignment. Students earn these homework points based on the effort they put into the assignment, not the amount they get correct. We encourage students to always try to do the assignment so we can assess where the student needs additional reinforcing of the topic.

Assessment: The students are assessed daily at their jobsites.
