About Ms. Poulos
Hi there! I have been teaching for 18 years. I have had the pleasure of teaching children in PreK, when they start their school journey, to fifth grade, when they are ready to move onto middle school and basically every grade in between! I've taught as both a general education and special education settings. I started my career in fifth grade. It was my favorite grade to teach and I am thrilled to be back!
I have my undergraduate degree in child study from St. Joseph's College. There was I certified as a general education teacher and special education teacher. I then pursued a masters degree in literacy education from Dowling College and a second masters in technology education from CW Post. I also am a certified Wilson Reading teacher and have been trained by a Teachers College Reading and Writing Project staff developer for 14 years.
I am so grateful to be a teacher. It is my passion and has been ever since I was a student myself, inspired by my own elementary teachers. I am super excited to be a part of the Elwood School District, a place that values individual skills and qualities of all students while empowering and inspiring students to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
Our Classroom
Our classroom is one of my favorite places to be! My goal is to make it a fun learning space where students feel free to ask questions, take risks and overcome their fear of making mistakes as this is part of the learning experience. I want my students to LOVE coming to school. It is my job as their teacher to meet them where they are at and encourage them to discover their highest potential.
