Grading Policy
As a department, our grading policy is as follows:
Students' overall grade for the quarter is summative; every assignment is worth a number of points. At the end of the quarter, all the points earned are added up and divided by the total possible points for each assignment.
Tests/Essays/Major Assessments = 100-200 points
Quizzes/Paragraphs = 10-50 points
Quizzes may be announced and unannounced.
Classwork/Homework = 5-35 points
English Department Homework & Assignment Policy
Homework will be assigned multiple times a week and may be in the form of reading and annotations, short answer questions, reading comprehension, or guided reading.
All assignments are due at the beginning of class.
For major assignments, 5-10% will be deducted each day the assignment is late. If an assignment is handed in more than one week late, the highest grade you can receive on that assignment is a 65. If the assignment is more than one week late, or not turned in at all, it will be marked as a zero. It is your responsibility to hand in your late work!
