Regents Chemistry
This course is based on the state curriculum set for the Physical Setting/ Chemistry. There are 13 basic units including Matter and Energy, Atomic Structure, Bonding, Periodic Table, Acids and Bases and Organic Chemistry. Most units contain several quizzes and all units end with an exam. A strong emphasis is place on the developement of laboratory skills and students are expected to complete at least 30 labs over the course of the year which is a state requirement. At the end of the course, students are prepared to take the NYS Regents Exam in Chemistry.
Honors Chemisty
Although this course follows the same sequence as Regents Chemistry, the pace is much quicker with advanced work added into the curriculum. Students should have a strong math background before enrolling. In addition to being prepared to take the NYS Regents Exam in Chemistry, students will also be prepared to take AP Chemistry upon successful completion of this course. A lab requirement is also part of this course.
General Chemistry
This course is designed to convey the basic principles of chemistry using familiar situations with an emphasis on current and environmental issues. The topics to be explored include Scientific Measurement, Matter and Energy, Atomic Structure, Bonding, Periodic Table, Solutions, Acids and Bases, Organic Chemistry and Nuclear Chemistry. Techniques involving graphing and decision-making skills are also covered within the syllabus.
