This video shows the power of literacy. Literacy is the ability to proficiently read and write. It is important because it is integrated in so much of what we do. It enhances our ability to effectively communicate with each other, relays a magnitude of information, and empowers us to learn and grow in our intellectual abilities. These products of literacy allow us to make the world a better place. Being able to read and write opens doors to a universe of learning experiences and also of our own imaginations. Literacy should be dispersed across all school subjects, but it is especially taught in English class.
In our English class, we will learn and remember how to properly write, understand the rules of writing, analyze the writing of others, evaluate authors' techniques, and constantly write our own pieces. We will set writing goals for ourselves, strive to improve our skills, and help others to improve their skills through self and peer editing. We will also read and learn to be active readers. We will practice making notes, asking important questions, interpreting, and using context clues to understand words we may not understand.
