Course Requirements

7 Grade AMERICAN HISTORY COURSE REQUIREMENTS:


GRADES:

Quarterly grades will be computed according to the following weighted

scale:

Tests and Essays 40%

Quizzes 30%

Classwork 20%

Homework 10%


MATERIALS:

1. The following materials must be in class at all times: a loose leaf binder and pen/pencil.

2. It is suggested, but not mandatory, that you bring a portable 3-hole punch to class.


HOMEWORK:

1. Homework is an essential part of the learning process and will be assigned regularly. You should check the homework board each day or Google Calendar.

2. There will be a homework average for each quarterly marking period that will count as 10% of the total grade. Points will be deducted from your average if it is poorly done, incomplete, or you haven’t followed directions.

3. All homework must have your name and the assigned date on the top of the page and the page number if it was from the textbook.

4. If you do your homework on the computer you will have to print out a copy to show me for class and to place in your notebook.

5. Any homework not done will receive a grade of zero.


CLASSWORK:

1. Participation in class discussions.

2. Maintain an organized notebook.

3. Do not call out. Raise your hand. Only one voice should be heard during discussions.

4. Hand in work on time.


ATTENDANCE:

1. All work missed due to absences must be made up.

2. Regular attendance is one of the keys to your success in this course.

3. Lateness: You are responsible for being on time to class. You should be seated and ready to begin working when the bell rings.

4. The class period lasts until the bell rings. Do not pack up to leave until class is over, or you are told to do so.

5. All work missed due to absences must be made up in a timely manner.

6. Cheating, plagiarism, copying another student’s work (including homework) or assisting others in any of these actions will result in a grade of a “zero” on the assignment and you will also be subject to school disciplinary actions.


METHODS TO IMPROVE GRADES:

1. Create flashcards to review vocabulary terms.

2. Study homework and class notes before quizzes and test.

3. Review Discovery Education (discoveryeducation.com) clips on various topic ( student login: elwoodstudent, student password: student ).

4. Review Brainpop Clips (brainpop.com) on various topics ( student login: elwood1, student password: elwood1).

5. Review various topics on World Book Online (worldbookonline.com),

student login: elwoodms, student password: elwood1).


GENERAL INFORMATION:

1. All work handed in will be graded on the basis of historical accuracy, originality of thought, interpretation, completion of the task and English usage.

2. Extra help opportunities will be provided according to your schedule and mine.

3. There is no extra credit.

4. Remember this is your class and never be afraid to ask questions.

5. Make sure you don’t wait until the end of the quarter to be concerne about your grade. Your effort should be consistent and you will have success.
